10 Simple Self Care Tips To Help You Destress

It is so important that we look after ourselves. Possibly even more so now that we’re in the middle of a pandemic. The world is stressful right now and it’s important for us to take time to de-stress. So here are my top 10 self care tips to make sure you look after yourselves:


  1. Get some fresh air.
    This is great if you have kids too! They’re like dogs, they need fresh air daily. But even if you don’t have kids, get yourselves out for some fresh air. A simple walk around your village will do you wonders. If you can listen to music or your favourite podcast then even better! Honestly, you’ll feel so much better when you get home.

  2. Take a long hot bath or shower.
    Use your favourite soap or fancy shampoo or throw in a bath bomb. Why not light a candle and put on some music or read? Tell your family you’re going to have a bath and they’re not allowed to disturb you for 1 hour!

  3. Catch up on your favourite box set, film or TV show.
    Seriously, when was the last time you watched something just for you? Grab some snacks, a blanket and get in front of the TV!

  4. Read a book.
    I’ll let you in on a little secret here, I love reading but it’s hard finding a time when the house is quiet so I put on my children's noise cancelling headphones and read, GAME CHANGER!! Ok, so you don’t have to do that but find a time when it’s quiet so you can really concentrate. Reading at bedtime instead of being on your phone is a great idea and can really help with sleep!

  5. Make a list (or list of lists in my case).
    I always feel much better when I get everything out of my head and onto some paper, or even the ‘notes’ app on my iPhone. Don’t actually do anything on the list, just write it down. You can tick things off later, right now it’s just about clearing your head. The other night I couldn’t sleep because I randomly kept thinking about all of the outstanding DIY we have to do in our home. I quickly grabbed my phone, made a list, put my phone down and went to sleep. It helps massively!

  6. Have a day off social media.
    Seriously, put your phone away or delete the apps for 24 hours. Do whatever you want to do that you’ve been putting off. Instead of scrolling Instagram, you could tackle some things on your to do list. 

  7. Indulge yourself.
    Eat your favourite dessert, bake your favourite cake, make a milkshake, make a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. Just enjoy eating or drinking something that you love.

  8. Get some proper rest.
    Go to bed at an acceptable time. Sleep in. Or wake up early before everyone else and just enjoy your own space for a while.

  9. FaceTime or call someone you love.
    This is so important right now! Check in on your loved ones, see how your Gran is or catch up with your sister or best friend. We can’t meet in person right now (UK currently in lockdown), but still ‘get together’ online/ via the phone. FaceTime your friend and both watch the same movie at the same time, just like you would in person.

  10. Declutter/ organise your space.
    Tidy a room, a cupboard, your wardrobe, do your ironing or just make your bed. Having a clearer space makes a clearer head. You’ll feel amazing if you fully ‘Hinch’ your home, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Tackle one room a week but fully deep clean, declutter and organise it.
